I just realized that this summer feels kind of lonely, book-wise. Last year I read nearly the whole of the A Song Of Ice And Fire books over the summer holiday (with the exception of A Dance With Dragons, which I got for my birthday in October). These books were friends. I shall not have these friends this summer. I’m planning to read Neil Gaiman’s American Gods, Leo Tolstoi’s Anna Karenina, Michael Faber’s The Crimson Petal And The White and Umberto Eco’s The Name Of The Rose instead, but I fear it might not be the same. Last year’s summer holidays were largely set in Westeros, and now I just don’t know a series that has the same magnetic pull.
Unless you count the Sailor Moon manga, I suppose, which I maybe should not in this context.I just want to find more good series to read, and not books that are series/trilogies for the sake of being a series or trilogy. So many of today’s trilogies would work better if they were condensed into a stand-alone book, I think, that I just haven’t been able to find a new series to devour.
Meep. Bookworm problems?
