Protectors Of The Earth, by Two Steps From Hell. I once came across Two Steps From Hell music on the trailer for the latest Narnia movie, but I had no clue what it was. I knew it was awesome, but couldn’t find who had done the music. Then I randomly came upon a fanmade Harry Potter trailer, and it used the same music, the song was Heart Of Courage (Choir).
If you are planning on participating, make sure your last tumblr post the night beforehand is “BRB Blackout”, so people know why you are gone. Also, please reblog this post so that as many people as possible know when the blackout starts.
Whatever your respective time zones are is when to start. there is no specification.
What is the blackout?:
A day. A single day where you don’t use tumblr. No logging in. No checking it. I know it’s hard being cut off from your community for a day, but a single day, but by refusing to use or look at Tumblr, you are making a powerful collective dent that will (ideally) inspire Tumblr mods to consider that these changes are hurting and upsetting us. You are telling them that that we were very happy with many of the old features that we once had. This is a respectful silent protest.
Why a blackout:
Because social media websites, whether for profit or not, use numbers to determine whether or not their website is successful. Tumblr is a popular, ever growing website with a loyal userbase, so no matter how much the tumblr staff ruins the website, the hit numbers will continue to grow. Making a dramatic dent in that is the only way to really get our point across and demand to be heard. We are essentially making a statement that says “we are not happy with the changes that you have made, it is your users that makes your site successful, please listen to us”
BUT YOU ARE OVERREACTING1111 ITS JUST A WEBSITE WE DON’T HAVE TO PAY FOR IT OMFGZ GRPW UP.
I’m not proposing that we seek out and gun down everybody who works for and maintains tumblr. I don’t think asking people to go outside or hang out with their friends for a day is being terribly reactionary or overly aggressive. For many of us, Tumblr is a home away from home where we talk to people who share our weird interests. I think we have a right to ask that it runs in the most user friendly way possible. I also refuse to congratulate Karp for “not making us pay” for Tumblr. Most social media websites do not require payment, and many still listen to their users. A good example is Reddit, which is among the most popular websites on the internet and still works tirelessly to make sure that users are happy with the developments they make.
Some of the negative changes make to Tumblr:
The banning of all follower tracker services. The changes and attacks on Missing E that have resulted in many features being taken away and may result in it’s permanent banning. Askboxes having character limits. Askboxes regularly eating messages that they see as spam. Askboxes not allowing us to post links or use the enter key. David Karp responding to these problems by basically saying “let them eat cake”. The Tumblr sidebar being taken away.
If you have any more questions, please contact me via submitbox. Please do not ask anon so I can properly respond.
The cast of the 2008 concept album of the musical Pompeji singing the song 2000 Jahre (2000 Years). As far as I know, this musical has never been staged, which is a shame ‘cause I really, really like the CD. I love this particular track: the harmonies are absolutely wonderful and I like the beat.
This is an absolutely wonderful CD, and I wish more people would listen to it. You should just listen for the cast, you know, which is kinda mindblowing: Thomas Borchert, Jan Ammann, Annemieke van Dam, Sascha Th. G. Krebs, Darius Merstein, Kerstin Frank , Jeannette Friedrich & Alexander Prosek. You can listen to some other cool tracks here: Ich Bleibe Nur Ein Schatten, Der Orakelbetrug, Der Weg, Schande.
With a special shout-out for these 6 special girls, who are the best friends in the history of best friends. Or: The people who were there throughout the years when no one else was. I love you all. <3 River | Mizumi | Fran | Ruby | Paola | Anja
You know how I always believed to be a Ravenclaw? For 10 years?
I just read the Pottermore info for Ravenclaw (because my dear Anja got in, congratulations sweetheart!) and Hufflepuff actually does seem to fit me better. I just feel a bit conflicted about my Ravenclaw merch. But I’ll wear it all the same, the merch is expensive and I do love Ravenclaw dearly, and it very much applies to a big part of who I am.
So I really am a Hufflepuff after all. Who’d have thought?
Although, it would be really nice if potion brewing would start working properly on Pottermore. I don’t know about you guys, but I brew the first bit, wait for the 1-3 hours, and then either of these three scenarios happens:
a) I do things correctly, but it says I did things wrong; b) I finish the potion correctly, only to find out I’ve been logged out/it doesn’t count, I somehow don’t get my house points nor the potion I’ve brewed; c) According to Pottermore, I’m not brewing a potion at all. (THIS HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES TODAY.)
It’s frustrating the crap out of me. Anyway: YAY HUFFLEPUFF!
Random question (well, not really random as it regards Mathias Edenborn): do you happen to know if he speaks English? If so, fluently, conversational, etc? Thanks!
Hey there! I’m fairly certain Mathias speaks English - I spoke with him in English the first time I met him and he seemed to have no problem with that. I’m not sure how fluent he is, but judging by concerts I’d say his English is definitely better than just conversational. Hope that helps a bit! <3
Anyway…I don’t like the line ;) It sounds as if Elphaba was completely obsessed with magic and that’s why she flees/flies whatever. Those casting shows seem to become rather popular.I find them somehow interesting but also disturbing.
You are totally free to like or dislike the line, I was only correcting myself ;D I’m not a big fan of it either, but what can you do. And yes, the casting shows are wildly popular.. so popular even that this year we’ll have two.. it makes me a little sad. I love the shows but it’s getting a little overhyped? I don’t know.
So,after listening again &again,I can only agree. The song isn’t as powerful as in German (& Engl.) concerning its meaning :-/ Also the “ist das der Preis für Liebe…” part is missing :( Hmm,Joseph isn’t popular here at all that’s why I was surprised
Upon rewatching, I must rectify something I said before: she sings “Toveren is de allerhoogste vlucht”. I remembered vlucht, which can either mean flee.. or flight. She sings flight so at least that’s sort of sticking to the original text? More than I thought at first, anyway. I’m not sure what they did with Preis Für Liebe, what they settled for seems rather weak. It’s not at all convincing. As for Joseph: they did cast Joseph on television, like they have done with Evita, Mary Poppins and Zorro (and Tarzan & Jane in Germany). These shows are wildly popular here, with the first male edition (for Joseph) being the huge favourite. Hence Joseph ending up a favourite. I think.
They either try to hard to make it rhyme or not enough XD For example, I find the german Spring Awakening songs just a bit ridiculous, but I usually like whatever Michael Kunze does XD Btw, what are you guys watching? I feel like I should see it XD
Ah yes, Spring Awakening.. I like some of the translations in that show, but only some. It’s funny that that works so much better in English, considering the original play is in German! Michael Kunze however is generally quite wonderful. I love his work. I just posted the video we were talking about ;) Here in the Netherlands, they have a free festival of sorts at the Uitmarkt each year. One section is especially for musicals, and the musical world presents the shows for the upcoming seasons. One of the shows broadcast today was Wicked, with the premiere of Defying Gravity with Dutch lyrics. :) That’s what we’ve been discussing ;D
I am bothered by the translation of my fav. line “Leben heißt zu lernen wie man fliegt”. The way she sang “vlucht” was amazing though.Yeah,I’m watching right now…Chantal…who needs her? xD And “Joseph and…”?? Seriously? Oo It’s a shame!
That’s what I meant with some lines lacking essence. :( “Leben heißt zu lernen wie man fliegt” is such a powerful moment in the German lyrics, and then the Dutch come with “how I flee in the magic!” or something along those lines if I’m not misremembering. Just the whole word “flee” in this context is inappropiate. =/ Lol indeed. Bye bye Chantal. xD I thought it a bit of a surpirse Joseph won.. it was a fairly popular musical here, but it was so short ago and I hardly think that’s the best song ever performed in Dutch musicals. But who am I to say anything about that?
It’s true, I actually like the german Wicked songs better than the english originals. But maybe that’s just Willemijn’s voice that does it for me :D I often have trouble with translations in musicals especially if it doesn’t fit with the message.
Whee, someone who agrees with me! That makes me happy! I must admit I might like the German version a lot better because of Willemijn, too. The German cast moves me, whereas I don’t like the Original Broadway Cast much. When I listened to the OBC cast the first time, I found it forgettable, the German cast made me cry. *shrugs* Translating is a tricky business but you’re right, I wish they wouldn’t lose the message along the way. :( But that, sadly, happens much much too often.
Well, they know why they let Willemijn “promote” Wicked instead of Chantal and Jim xD I read on Twitter that everybody is amazed by Willemijn. Maybe one gets used to the translation after some time ;) But the accent thing is quite funny :D
Well, there are a few things that seriously bothered me in the translation, such as the syntax not being correct in one sentence (at least, it struck me as odd). I feel some lines lost their essence. But I will have to rewatch to truly know how I feel about the translation, which is no punishment since.. well, you know.. Willemijn. I’m glad she got good feedback. :D Chantal was up on the stage singing as well, but she and Ron Link did one of the Tarzan songs. They had asked the Dutch public to vote for 3 best songs of the last 50 years of Dutch musical theatre, and they got third place. For some silly reason however, they got to sing longer than the number 2 (which was Pia Douwes with Ich Gehör Nur Mir, so that pissed me off) and the number 1 (Freek Bartels with Close Every Door from Joseph And The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat). Is it just me or is that sliiightly unfair?
Aww honey, I hope it’ll go away soon :/ *huggles* I’m glad you enjoy movies and your new CDs though! And Will was awesome, not like I expected anything less of course.(“zwaartekracht’ is just a stupid Dutch word, but I can’t think of alternatives…)
Thanks sweetie =/ *huggles* And yeah, thankfully not all’s bad. :) Will was amazing, wasn’t she? Glad you enjoyed her performance too. :) And you’re right, I don’t think there is any other word for “zwaartekracht” (gravity), but they could’ve hinted at it or looked for synonyms (like in the German production, “Frei Und Schwerelos”). That however wasn’t my biggest complaint about the translation, I just felt it lacked heart at times.
Willemijn has a german accent? That’s funny :D And I always find german translations weird at first, when you know the english version. You’ll get used to the dutch translation :D And yes, music cures the heart, hopefully it’ll cure your stomach too.
Yep, Will now has a German accent! It’s too cute for words! You hear it on some vowels and the way she pronounces the ‘g’ or words that are the same in German as they are in Dutch (e.g. “anderen”). It made me smile so much! Will is just far too adorable for a human being. And that’s true, translations always take some time getting used to, but a good translation doesn’t make you frown quite so much.. e.g. I didn’t have any problems with the German translation of Wicked the first time I heard it, and I’ve actually come to like it better than the English original text. *hides* But there’s no need for me to get used to the Dutch translation.. ‘cause I won’t be going. I won’t have much time to go see it before Vienna anyways and seeing as Wicked is one of the most expensive shows.. I’d rather save that money and go see Sister Act in Vienna another time or something. Yep. I really do hate the other people in the Dutch Wicked cast besides Willemijn that much. Sad story. And thank you!!! <3~ *huggles*
sheepys-cloud said: Oh no, I hope you get better soon. This must really suck :( But those CDs are great. I love the soundtrack of “Die Päpstin” and you just picked my favourite songs of it ;) Have fun watching Willemijn on TV. I have to wait for clips on YT :(
It really does suck T_T I hope it will go away soon. :( And you’re right, the CDs are amazing~ Well, Die Päpstin at least, I haven’t actually heard Lulu yet, but I’m willing to take the bet ;D And yay for liking the songs I picked from Die Päpstin! Allow me to graduate you once more on your fantastic taste.
As for Willemijn.. They only did Defying Gravity, so no idea how Chantal or Jim are as Glinda or Fiyero. But Will was amazing! Mindblowing as always. Her Dutch has an extreme German accent though, bless! And the translation was really sucky, but maybe that’s just me.
wait.. what? there is a cd of the innsbruck lulu cast? oh my god, i love you. thank you because i really didn’t knew!
Yes, there is a CD for Lulu! It’s a double CD, a live-recording. I only found out about it the other day in a mail from Sound Of Music :) You can order it either there or at the website of the theatre :D And you’re very welcome!
After a week of being ill, I'm not much closer to getting better.
Dear stomach, I wish you could start appreciating food again. I’m not even a big fan of food but this is starting to get ridiculous. I can barely eat anything and I’m only just at the right weight as it is and don’t seek to lose a lot, thank you. Also, I miss chocolate. And just, you know, being able to eat.
To cheer myself up, however, I’ve been watching the Tinker Bell movies. I’ve seen the first 2 now and I actually think they’re adorable~ And I love the animation and the soundtracks. All of it is just so ~cute! Also, I bought 2 new CDs..
I wanted to get the new Jesus Christ Superstar (2011, Vienna) too, because the cast is so amazing (especially Drew Sarich). But that went a little over budget, and seeing as I’ll easily be able to buy that CD in Vienna next year, I settled for these two:
- Die Päpstin (the female Pope), 2011 Fulda cast. This is the story of Pope Joan, and the soundtrack is *awesome*. Not only does it have the musical-love of my life, Mathias Edenborn, but also Sabrina Weckerlin, who is made of cuteness and rainbows. Everyone should listen ‘cause this CD is *awesome*. And yes, it’s beautiful even if you don’t understand German. This is Das Bin Ich (That’s who I am), as sung by Sabrina Weckerlin, and this is Ein Traum Ohne Anfang Und Ende (A dream without a beginning and without an end). It’s just so beautifuuuul. - Lulu, 2011 Innsbruck cast. This is based on the double-play by Frank Wedekind (yes, the dude from Spring Awakening) called Lulu. I’m actually reading that at the moment so I thought it was appropiate. Also, Lucy Scherer (my Glinda) as Lulu? Yes please. And Máté Kamarás as Jack The Ripper? I’m not saying no to that! Here, have the trailer:
And now I’m going to get ready to watch the Musical Sing-A-Long, where Willemijn Verkaik will be performing as Elphaba (from Wicked).. in Dutch. That’s gonna be strange. I’m so used to her singing in German..
